Longtime Ottawa resident, Downtown Merchant, and a Candidate for change.

About Dylan

I have been a resident of Ottawa since 2012, and have worked Downtown just as long. I manage the County's only bookstore (Prairie Fox Books) and, in doing so, have been very involved with the community and the educators in our area. I am fully invested in making sure Ottawa is the kind of City that my wife and I are proud to raise our kids and grandchildren in. I am the former VP of the Ottawa Downtown Merchants Association, a Volunteer on the Grant Committee of the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation, and the Founder of the Ottawa Family Pride Fest/Family Pride Fund.

What I Believe In

Transparency

Members of City Hall are elected officials, and have been chosen to represent the people's best interest. This includes keeping everyone informed. Transparency is essential in City Hall, and needs to be restored to the level of precedence that it deserves. Citizens should feel like they always have easily accessible information and resources.

Growth

I have watched Ottawa grow since I moved here in 2012. The Downtown, alone, has made incredible strides. There is, however, more to Ottawa than just the Downtown Business District--parks, Residential streets, and Community Programming are the beginning of a long list of areas that need more attention in order to keep Ottawa growing.

Equity

When elected officials make decisions that even APPEAR to lean toward playing favorites, the system starts to break down. Your City Council should be making decisions based on fair and impartial bids, an overall need, and with a sense of consistency.

There is no room in Ottawa City Government for double standards or favoritism.

Your Council is an elected body, an is an extension of your voice as the Citizens of Ottawa.

What Can We Work on Together?

  • More ADA-compliance across the board with parks and streets

  • A brand-new skate park with bowls, rails, and ramps for all skill levels, with

surrounding greenery and shelters

  • A more comprehensive Community Garden program

  • A new committee to foster communication between the School Boards, City Council, and Parents/Guardians

  • More resources for our Tree Board and Parks Department, so we can properly take care of our trees in town and throughout the City.

  • More community input about the larger industries that are being considered for relocation--economic growth is vital, but safety and Community well-being is always top priority.

While we wait for big industry to move into our neighborhood, we can be investing in our existing gems, and allowing them to be the economic boost we need.

The older Ottawa Community is being overlooked in terms of activities and resources. Kids activities are always important, but we need to be catering to the large demographic that is not being heard.

Creativity is the best resource to build with,

and so much of it is left untapped:

there is an entire community with ideas--give them an outlet!

Ottawa is ready to reach its

fullest potential. I'm ready to help make that happen.
